The Dialogue

Moktar – Silk

The track opens with the raw propulsion of broken rhythms and a distinctive swing. What initially feels like a stripped-back club tool gradually reveals a far more ambitious vision. Moktar’s signature Middle Eastern percussion slowly enters the frame, adding both tension and momentum while the arrangement patiently unfolds.

What makes Silk so special is its sense of constant revelation. Every section introduces a new emotional layer. The arrival of the mijwiz motif feels like a turning point, repeating hypnotically before the sub-bass emerges beneath it. From there, luminous pads and a beautifully restrained harmonic progression begin to reshape the track’s emotional weight. By the time the bassline arrives, carrying faint echoes of New Order’s melodic sensibility, the track has transformed entirely from where it began.

Music that achieves this on a dancefloor is rare. Silk balances powerful percussion, memorable hooks, and genuine emotional depth without ever losing its sense of mystery. In many ways, it embodies what we look for in our own DJ sets: tension, surprise, emotional payoff, and tracks that continue unfolding long after they seem to have revealed their intentions.
